Google Glasses
The “Google X” Special Projects Lab presented the “augmented reality” glasses that bring the Internet directly in front of you, literary.
The project is called “Project Glass” and the glasses offers GPS guidance, e-mail, videos from YouTube and video chat, all from a few inches from the eye. The new gadget was recently presented on the Google + social network, with a short montage showing how the glasses work from the perspective of a user walking through New York. The user from the video gives voice commands to the glasses, like for example what meetings does he have that day, weather conditions, answer an incoming message from a friend, has a conversation through video chat, takes pictures that could be loaded on the Google+ account, get GPS advice to get in a certain place and it is alert when approaching an acquaintance which is also connected to Google services. The glasses also alerts if the transport services operate normally.
The gadget runs on a modified version of Android. Basically, information is placed over the real world, above images seen by human eyes. Also, Google Glass users could find and identify each other. Google did not give a release date and no explanation of how the device really works. Currently, they want to get a feedback from the fans. “We share this information with you to start a conversation and learn from your desires. I took some photos of the glasses design to show how this technology would work, “said the Google X department.
Even if Google did not present an official launch day, the technology sites already explored the glasses potential of “augmented reality” especially in the business sector. Tourism could be the first area that would benefit from this gadget, especially the detailed maps running on a GPS system, which the tourist could access. Another area that could benefit from these special glasses is commerce. “Did you see clothes that you want really bad? Shortly after the video presentation of the new gadget appeared on Google +, Sergey Brim, co-founder of the most popular search engine, was seen at a charity event wearing a pair of glasses similar to those advertised. The information was made public by technology blogger Robert Scoble, who attended the same event. “I saw a blue light in his right eye. I do not know if it appeared my Google+ profile or he simply told his PR to shut up” wrote Robert Scoble on his blog.
